If you’ve ever tried to automate the process of installing a SQL database you’ll know that it’s not simple. The SageKey staff have built hundreds of SQL database installs and we’d like to share our tried and tested methods with you.

Our scripts are built for the Wise installation software (InstallBuilder and InstallMaster 8, Wise Installation System 9 and Wise Installation Studio 7). They take the pain and support out of installing a SQL database on any machine supported. We have scripts for both SQL Express 2005 and 2008.

  Preconditions the machine with all required software – Windows Installer, .Net Framework, Windows Powershell (for SQL 2008) and SQL Express if needed.

  Install a dedicated instance of SQL Express with complete control over instance name, authentication type, and system administrator password.

  Ensure the correct permissions are set on the installation directory.

  Attach any number of MDF files to the chosen instance of SQL.
