I built an install file and ran it on my vista laptop (which I built the install file on) and it worked fine.

I copied it to my XP PRo machine and ran it and I got Error 1316 a network error occurred while attempting to read from file c:\docu......

I ran an earlier version on this same computer with no issues.

How do I debug this error. I tried recreating the install and copying a new file.

No network in place just doing it on a local machine.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Mark,

It sounds like a file you are referencing in your install is not in the same location on the second machine. What file does it say it cannot read?

As for testing/debugging, you can uninstall the program and try again from scratch, and search for the file in question on both machines to see if they are in the same spot.

It could also be that you have pointed to an absolute path to a file where the path differs on Vista and XP, for example C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data on XP is simply C:\ProgramData. Directories like this can be referenced by variables such as COMMON_APP_DATA.
